Corporate Surrey Magician Theo Knocks Out ABA Super Heavyweight Champion Pat Passley – with LAUGHTER while sitting on Gary Mason’s memorial bench……….

On Sunday 25th August 2013 Sutton Cheam Banstead and Epsom’s Surrey Magician Theo The Magician attended the unveiling of the memorial mural and park bench in honor of Champion Boxer Gary Mason. The mural was unveiled at the Phoenix Centre on the Roundshaw estate near Wallington where the legend lived.

Rob Callus, a former boxer, fought Gary Mason on two occasions and helped organise the memorial event said, “It was about time something was done in his honor. Gary was a huge inspiration to many people and loved the area. The memorial bench is positioned outside his local church. He was a spiritual man and I’m sure he would be happy to have people sitting on his bench getting inspired. Sport was so close to Gary’s heart, he was very keen on getting young people active, so that is what we are going to try and do.”

Councillor Jill Whitehead, chairwomen of the environment and neighborhood committee, said: “Gary was and still is thought of very fondly within the borough and his untimely death in 20122 impacted on a lot of people. His sporting achievements as well as everything else he did for the community deserve recognition. We have been working with his family to ensure that Gary’s legacy lives long in the memory of everyone within the borough and that a fitting tribute can be made to this sporting great.”

Gary Mason was British heavyweight champion in 1989. His funeral in Carshalton in February 2011 was attended by hundreds of people and members of the boxing fraternity including Lennox Lewis.
